Paddock to Plate powerhouse Our Cow beefs up database with Brisbane Valley Farm Direct acquisition

The northern NSW-based meat subscription start-up has grown massively since it was started in 2019. It’s now generating around $20 million of annual recurring revenue from over 50,000 customers and supporting more than 150 farmers across Queensland and New South Wales.

Our Cow will bolster its database via the Brisbane Valley Farm Direct online acquisition. The fourth generation farming family business will then become a beef and quail supplier to Our Cow and continue to grow its Brisbane Valley Farm Direct catering business which has become a powerful platform for championing local produce and producers. The company’s Brisbane Valley Quail is used by more than 100 top restaurants in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong.

Our Cow co-founder Bianca Tarrant said Brisbane Valley Farm Direct had built an admirable brand and loyal customer bases that shared Our Cow’s ethos.

“People are increasingly searching for better ways to source sustainable, ethical, fresher and tastier produce that provides support to Australian farmers. The fact that people are looking for this alternative has already been proven by the amazing support for Our Cow as well as Brisbane Valley Farm Direct,” she said.

“The assets we’ve acquired primarily consist of information and materials that will help Our Cow reach a broader demographic in the Australian market who we believe are eager to source their daily food needs from sustainable, ethical Australian producers.”

“The information is already being seamlessly integrated into the internal databases and marketing systems that Our Cow utilises to communicate with existing as well as prospective customers.”

Brisbane Valley Farm Direct’s Duncan Brown said he was excited by the partnership and what it would mean for his retail customers.

“Our family is grateful to have had the opportunity to build such a loyal customer base and we’re really thrilled those retail customers will continue to receive great service and an expanded range of quality products from the Our Cow team while we focus on the farming side of the business and supporting our commercial customers,” he said.

“It’s a testament to the strong foundation of support we’ve built together and I’m excited to watch the next chapter unfold. Here’s to a thriving future for both Brisbane Valley Farm Direct and Our Cow.”

The news caps off a particularly successful six months for Our Cow including the acquisition of the business assets of grocery delivery startup VOLY and the completion of a record breaking crowd fund via leading platform Birchal.

The $2,096,150 million capital raise was largely supported by Our Cow customers with the investor webinar the most widely supported Birchal had ever seen. More than $100,000 was pledged in the first 15 minutes of the offer opening and $1 million within the first day.

The funds raised will enable the company to expand its range of fresh food, improve delivery times and expand nationally.

The company also recently rounded out its leadership team welcoming tech entrepreneur Robert Coorey to lead its Board as it begins its next phase of accelerated growth. Mr Coorey is the co-founder of award-winning property-tech platform Archistar and globally as a leading online marketing and sales expert.

Woolworths venture capital arm’s former lead investor Nicolas Rollinson also joined the company as Chief Financial Officer. The former Head of Buying at David Jones, Lyana Laborde, has taken on the role of Chief Procurement Officer and Koala’s former Vice President of Global Digital Strategy, Phil Parker, has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer.
